If you're going the grind route, you are going to want as many characters as you can manage grinding dilithium. The same goes for Engineering consoles that boost your hit points. A Phaser console gives about half again as much boost as a Beam console. Also, use specific consoles rather than general ones. Torpedoes have longer cooldown times, so you don't get to use them as often. If you have the choice, it's better to boost your beam weapons with consoles than to boost torpedoes. Then, if you keep some torpedoes, you can occasionally flip around to expose your opponent to a quick torpedo attack, either as a final kill shot or as a way to punch a hole in a shield (torpedoes are not as effective against shields as they are against physical targets, but they have enough DPS to weaken a shield if you need them to). If you use a broadside attack, you shouldn't have much problem getting all your beams on the target most of the time. For what it's worth, I would lose the turret and replace it with a beam weapon (I like Phaser Beams, but there are others that have the same Damage Per Second).
